Work with Us

Why choose to work for Perkins Builders? Well, we like to think we are a little different to our competitors after speaking with our current employees, and here is why:

Perkins Builders is privately owned and run by a proudly local family in the South West. There are no shareholders to pay dividends to, and money is reinvested back into the business and the people.

Our Managing Director believes that the people in his business are the key to success. So naturally, if our employees succeed, then the business will be able to succeed also. This means we are committed to your development and your goals.

At Perkins, we don’t hire you just to fill a position – we treat it as though you are joining our family. So it’s important that we select personnel who will contribute to that family/team sense of purpose. That’s why we are so particular about whom we hire. That’s why it’s important that we recruit the right people to fit our business.

We are serious about our commitment to the local and global community. Perkins Builders makes a significant financial and physical commitment to a number of credible non-for-profit organisations doing good in this world. We’ve worked with the Tabitha Foundation in Cambodia to build homes for those living below the poverty line and we work with local communities and charities to partner with them to achieve growth and positive change in their respective fields.

At Perkins Builders we like to offer a number of great benefits to our staff, covering all bases:

    • Access to Corporate Discounts for Health & Other Insurance Plans
    • Preferential Banking with our Partners
    • Preferential Vehicle pricing with our Partners
    • Novated Leasing options
    • Access to premier entertainment and sporting tickets throughout the year

We are proud of our people and their achievements. We nominate our staff for industry awards and recognise when an individual or a team goes above and beyond.

We care about the health of our employees. Each year we offer skin checks, flu vaccinations and general wellbeing check-ups. We also regularly participate in charity events focused on health to support important causes, but also to provide staff an opportunity to participate in fitness activities.

We believe you spend too much time at work each week to not have some fun along the way. We celebrate birthdays and staff milestones at monthly morning teas, we hold a variety of social events, catering to staff with families, and single youth in the business to build team culture. We are always coming up with new ways to make the workplace a happy and healthy place to be.

Perkins Builders are committed to playing our part in training the next generation of builders. We offer apprenticeships and traineeships for anyone looking to enter the industry. We support the goals of our employees, offer training and opportunities for promotion.

We want to see our people grow and succeed in their chosen career path and we have the tools to help you do this.

Ultimately, we aim to employ like-minded people, who value a happy and healthy workplace, where they are enabled and driven to succeed in their role, and willing to have some fun whilst doing it. We genuinely care about our staff, and want to do the right thing by them.

Stability and Reputation

At Perkins Builders, we have over 50 years of experience behind us. We are a business with a solid plan for the future. We employ people in long term, stable roles. Each year we recognise employees who have been with the business 10, 15 and 20+ years and we are yet to have a year where we don’t have a few awards to hand out in these categories.

Confidence. Quality. Pride. These attributes have been core values of our business since the beginning and were highlighted during our milestone 50th year celebrations. We pride ourselves in providing a quality outcome and have the confidence in our knowledge and experience that we can continue to deliver exceptional results; our industry reputation is testament to this. When you work for Perkins you can be assured you are working for a company that delivers results you can be proud to be a part of.

The Perkins Experience

Starting your Career at Perkins

Perkins Builders have always been committed to training the next generation of builders.  As such, Perkins offer apprenticeships, traineeships, work experience placements and internships to local candidates looking to kick start their career in the industry.

A terrific advantage with a Perkins’ apprenticeship is that whilst the trade certificate attained will be for a specific area of expertise, working on our construction sites will see you exposed to all trades and gain a proficient understanding of the construction industry in general. We predominantly offer apprenticeships in Carpentry and Joinery.

We have a number of traineeship opportunities in other areas of the business such as Contract Administration Support, Finance, Administration, HR and HSE. In order to operate as a successful business, departments such as these are critical to support the build process.

For over 5 years, Perkins has provided an internship opportunity for a 3rd Year Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management and Economic) student from Curtin University to provide them practical and hands on experience, complementing their university studies. These students complete this work experience over the summer holidays, and are often provided a casual contract of employment for their final year of university, and a graduate position the following year as a pathway into the industry. We are pleased to see these students now running their own projects and making an impact in the industry.

Whether it be out on a construction site or seeing how the office support team work, Perkins Builders offer work experience positions throughout all facets of our business to allow students the opportunity to test out what it’s like to work in the construction industry.
